Iterative estimation of amplitude scaling on distortion-compensated dither modulation

چکیده
The vulnerability of quantization-based data hiding schemes to amplitude scaling requires the formulation of countermeasures to this relatively simple attack. Parameter estimation is one possible approach, where the applied scaling is estimated from the received signal at the decoder. This estimate can be used to correct the mismatch with respect to the quantization step assumed by the decoder prior to decoding. In this work we first review previous approaches utilizing parameter estimation as a means of combating the scaling attack on DC-DM. We then present a method for joint iterative decoding and maximum likelihood estimation of the scaling factor for this quantization-based method. The estimation method exploits the reliabilities provided by the nearoptimal iterative decoding process in order to successively refine the estimate. The complexity of this problem is tackled using the expectation maximization algorithm. By performing estimation in cooperation with the decoding process, reliable estimation is possible at very low watermark-to-noise power ratios by using sufficiently low rate codes.

Blind Turbo Decoding of Side-informed Data Hiding Using Iterative Channel Estimation
Distortion-Compensated Dither Modulation (DC-DM) has been theoretically shown to be a near-capacity achieving data hiding method, thanks to its use of side information at the encoder. In practice, channel coding is needed to approach its achievable rate limit. However, the most powerful coding methods, such as turbo coding, require knowledge of the channel model. We investigate here the possibi...
متن کاملImprove Spread Transform Dither Modulation by Using a Perceptual Model to Provide Resistance to Amplitude Scaling and Jpeg Compression
It is well known that Spread Transform Dither Modulation (STDM) is more robust to re-quantization such as JPEG compression than regular Quantization Index (QIM) does. However, STDM introduces relatively higher perceptual distortion and is quite sensitive to amplitude scaling, which is actually a quite common processing. In this paper, we propose algorithms to reduce perceptual distortion and to...

Quantization index modulation (QIM) watermarking proposed by Chen and Wornell provides computational efficient blind watermarking based on Costa’s dirty paper codes. The limitation of this is its vulnerability against amplitude scaling distortion. The present work is proposed to solve this problem based on angle QIM within spread transform dither modulation (STDM) framework. AQIM embeds the inf...
